The origin of the club traces back to 1953, when the Youth Foundation of Virginia Beach was founded as a part of the National Exchange Club.
The “Exchange Club,” essentially took off in 1971 when the first picnic/pig roast was held at Munden Point in Southern Virginia Beach. The twenty five member club went door to door selling tickets and cooked all of the food for the event.
The early motto of the club was: “Make it fun and they will come!” Our Spring Pig Roast quickly outgrew the Munden Point location and moved to Camp Pendleton (now known as State Military Reservation or SMR) in 1975. Camp Pendleton has remained an integral partner ever since.
Throughout the years, the Oyster and Pig Roast has grown in attendance to almost 4,000 people. It has truly become one of the signature events in Virginia Beach every Spring.
In 2003, the club separated from the National Exchange Club to maximize the financial impact on the community and The Virginia Beach Youth Service Club (YSC) was born.
YSC began a new tradition in 2012 when a second party was added. The original intent was to raise a little more money for the kids with a smaller, more intimate gathering of about 1000 patrons. That party evolved into our Fall Beer and Wine Bash that saw an attendance of almost 3000 patrons in 2023!
